Couple's Current, Future Gifts Make Treatment Better and Support Fox Chase Research

"To be diagnosed once was bad enough, but to be diagnosed the following year with a totally different kind of cancer was devastating," said Linda, a health insurance account executive. "Fox Chase was there for us both times, and Bob received the absolute best treatment and care at the Center."

Bob, a retired postal worker, was originally diagnosed with cancer of the head and neck. A woman on his mail route had survived thyroid cancer and recommended Dr. John Ridge at Fox Chase.

The following year, Bob was diagnosed with prostate cancer. "We chose Fox Chase again," said Linda. "They feel like family to us. They have everything that you need here, plus more personal attention."

During Bob's second treatment, he had to go to another hospital to receive biofeedback therapy. The Devlins felt the therapy should be available at Fox Chase, so they held an Octoberfest fundraiser that raised enough money to purchase a biofeedback machine and staff training.

Linda lost her mother, father, aunt, and great aunt to cancer, while Bob's father died at the age of 28 from leukemia. Although they are not in a position to make a significant gift now to support research, they have included bequests for the Center in both their wills.

"By leaving our estates to Fox Chase, we will be helping a lot of people in the future," said Bob. "We are not wealthy, so this is our way of giving back to the Center for all it's done for us."
